Couples therapy

All couples have their issues.

It’s extremely painful to feel alone in a relationship - like you’re on two separate paths and can’t find your way to each other. Right now, it may feel like you’re walking on eggshells, bracing for the next argument. Perhaps you’ve tried having the hard conversations and keep getting stuck and shut down.

Or maybe it’s mostly good, with only the occasional bump in the road. You don’t have to be in crisis to start couples therapy. Even in the early days of a partnership, patterns start to form. Maybe you’re afraid some of the same old patterns from past relationships might show up here too. This is the perfect time to build habits that help you understand each other, communicate openly, and feel connected - so your relationship starts strong and stays strong.

Whether you’re wanting to be proactive in setting a healthy foundation or facing serious challenges and hit a breaking point, you’re at the right place.

Couples therapy can help.

  • Learn more about yourself and how you show up in relationships.

  • Identify and understand your behaviors, thoughts, emotions, and needs.

  • Understand your partner’s behaviors, thoughts, emotions and needs.

  • Identify the patterns that keep pulling you and your partner apart.

  • Share your experience with your partner in a way that makes you feel seen and heard.

  • Rebuild trust after hurt, disconnection, or betrayal.

  • Gain the tools you need to stay connected to yourself and your partner through challenging times.

  • Build a strong bond so that when you get disconnected, you trust you will find your way back to each other.

  • Experience deep connection and intimacy in your relationship.

Wherever you are in your journey, I’ll meet you there.

Your Couples Therapist, Erin Chelgren, MS, MFTC

My name is Erin Chelgren (she/her/hers) and I am committed to helping couples heal and thrive through meaningful connection to themselves and their loved ones. My goal is for both of you to feel seen and heard while providing you with the tools required for effective communication and deep connection.

I provide a warm, nonjudgmental space for you to share your story. I’ll meet you with empathy and curiosity. My style is down-to-earth and direct. With my trauma-informed approach and use of evidence-based modalities, there is hope for healing that lasts.

Pursuing growth is the most courageous act and best investment a person can make for themselves, their relationships, and the world. I know how vulnerable it can feel to show up and try. I applaud you for your courage to show up anyway.

I've been practicing as a therapist since 2019 and currently practice as a Marriage and Family Therapist Candidate in the state of Colorado (MFTC.0014083). I have advanced training in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) and EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing).

The Logistics

Our first session will be a conjoint 55 or 85 minute session (telehealth or in-person) where we will discuss what brought you to therapy and set goals for our work together. Then, I will meet with both partners individually for a full 85 minute session for history intake and attachment questionnaire. After meeting with each of you individually for one session, we will meet conjointly going forward.

My office is located at I-25 and Colorado Blvd.
