EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing)
EMDR is an evidence-based therapeutic modality proven to help people recover from trauma & PTSD symptoms. On-going research finds EMDR to be a helpful treatment for anxiety, depression, chronic pain, & other distressing life events.
Sometimes painful experiences are so intense they override the brain’s natural way of processing events. When this happens, the memory can become “stuck,” stored in the body as fragments - like puzzle pieces that never quite fit together. Each piece may hold a part of the experience: images, sounds, smells, body sensations, thoughts, and memories.
The brain continues to try to put the pieces together to make sense of what happened, but struggles to do so without intervention. This is where EMDR comes in and changes lives.
EMDR helps the brain reprocess these experiences so the memory can be stored in an adaptive, integrated way. The puzzle pieces begin to fit together, allowing our systems to make new meaning of what happened.
As an EMDR trained, IFS informed therapist I am passionate about providing quality trauma-informed care. You deserve relief.
